Join us for an intimate evening inside the light-suffused NW Portland studio of Mary Chomenko Hinckley. As the daughter of Ukrainian refugees who fled the aftermath of WWll, Hinckley is a close observer of contemporary conflict and the mechanics of division—yet her vibrant canvases burst with an unsinkable optimism and joy wielded as a bulwark against the darkness. Having worked in bronze, glass, and drawing mediums since the early 1980s, her current work celebrates the pure immediacy of hand to canvas.
Mary will be joined in conversation with acclaimed artist and Converge 45 board member, Malia Jensen. Together, they will explore the evolution of Mary's practice and the role of radical joy in contemporary art.
