About the Project

Ido Radon is a Portland artist and writer whose work uses modular construction and prototyping to examine how technology and engineering organize daily life. Her Triennial project at the Center for Contemporary Art at  PNCA, Men make their own history…, is an installation of sculptural forms abstracted from the games of chess and Chutes and Ladders. Constructed from vintage Erector sets, these re-composable structures treat the games’ opposing logics of strategy and chance as a way to consider the possibility of free will. An accompanying project, ALICE, takes the form of a file server proposing flows of information after the end of the internet: a library for a future art school.

ARTIST BIO

Radon’s broader practice spans solo exhibitions internationally and across the Pacific Northwest, including Afternoon Projects (Vancouver, BC), Air de Paris (Paris), Artspeak (Vancouver, BC), Ditch Projects (Springfield, OR), Et al. (San Francisco), ILY2 (Portland), Jupiter Woods (London), Romance (Pittsburgh), and Veronica (Seattle). She has also exhibited at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA), the Belkin Art Gallery, and the Henry Art Gallery, which holds her work in its permanent collection.

An autodidact who also holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia, Radon was a 2023 finalist for the Seattle Art Museum's Betty Bowen Award and a Mass MoCA Residency Fellow. Her upcoming work will be featured in the 2027 State of the Art exhibition at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Her practice has been generously supported by grants from the Oregon Arts Commission, The Ford Family Foundation, New Foundation, PICA, and RACC. Alongside family and friends, she co-runs SOCIETY, a project space for art, its discourses, and its histories.
