Rose Salane
Rose Salane is a New York–based artist whose work explores how bureaucratic systems leave material traces in everyday objects. Her 2026 C45 Triennial project at Reed College’s Cooley Gallery centers on a pair of shoes once owned by Princess Diana, using them to examine the persistence of aura and collective memory. The video documents a magic show and artist-convened public viewing echoing a 1997 Portland memorial where thousands mourned and signed condolence albums that were ultimately lost before reaching Buckingham Palace. By centering these shoes as a charged relic, Salane investigates how a city chooses to remember what matters and what happens when official records vanish.
