“NORTHWEST DREAMING: POSTWAR SUBJECTIVITY AND THE IMAGE OF THE ARTIST”
In 1952, ethnographic filmmaker Robert Gardner created a portrait of Northwest painter and spiritualist Mark Tobey that positions the artist inside of his work as an exploratory subject. “Northwest Dreaming” continues Gardner’s experiment by exhibiting the film amidst a body of postwar paintings that navigate the interior life of the artist-self.
Curated by Stephanie Snyder, John and Anne Hauberg Curator and Director.
