Join us for the inaugural gathering of What Remains, an ongoing series dedicated to activating performance memory, honoring artistic lineage, and recirculating the works of seminal dance makers.
For this first gathering, community members, friends, and colleagues will come together to revisit, reflect on, and watch archival video of the choreographic work of Keith V. Goodman (1960–2009). A beloved dancer, choreographer, educator, and artistic director of Dance Gatherer, Keith was a central force in Portland's dance landscape whose sudden passing onstage in 2009 deeply impacted our community. In collaboration with the stewards of his estate, this gathering offers a long-overdue space to re-engage with his vibrant oeuvre and keep his creative legacy alive.
About the "Choreographic Activation Gatherings" Series
How do we carry the dances that came before us? How does choreography live on after its creators have left the stage?
Hosted by artist Linda K. Johnson throughout the run of What Remains, these informal, participatory gatherings bring local performance histories back into dialogue with the present. Through shared archival viewing, oral storytelling, and collective memory-sharing, each session centers on a pioneering artist whose work reshaped our regional arts landscape.
Future gatherings in this series will feature upcoming dialogues with guest artists, including acclaimed choreographer Minh Tran, as we continue to reflect on, revisit, and recirculate foundational works across our community.
